Leadership Hall County Program
Leadership Hall County is an effective leadership development program that provides the opportunity for existing and emerging leaders to gain insight and knowledge concerning all aspects of the Gainesville-Hall County community, including: Education, Healthcare, Government, Economic Development, Health and Social Services and the Arts. Additionally, the program educates local leaders about the challenges facing our community today. The course begins in June with an introductory session and culminates with graduation in May during the annual Graduation and Alumni Party.
During the full-day programs, participants work together with local Leadership Hall County Alumnae and other community leaders to expand their knowledge about the community and enlarge their network of business contacts and resources.
Participants are given the opportunity to: identify their own leadership skills; enhance leadership capabilities; and, learn valuable teambuilding skills that will be utilized throughout their personal and professional lives. Additionally, members of the class enhance their “good corporate citizenship” by participating in an annual volunteer project that will advance a worthy cause or solve a community problem.
- The time commitment includes 10 full-day intensive sessions from June-April. One hundred percent attendance is required from each participant.
- Participate in the “Ride-A-Long” program with the Hall County Sherriff’s Department.
- Attend a Gainesville City Council meeting and a Hall County Commission meeting.
- Attend a Gainesville City and Hall County school board meeting.
- Participate in the Leadership Hall County Alumnae (pilot) mentoring program. Participants will make connections with seasoned community leaders with similar career, volunteer aspirations. VP of Education will match participants with mentor volunteers.
- Participate in a class service project.
- To identify, encourage and develop participants’ leadership abilities.
- Ensure that participants involve themselves in greater roles in our community by serving on a non-profit board or routinely volunteer with nonprofit agencies or other civic related organizations.
- Create opportunities for participants to develop a network of in-depth relationships with experienced community leaders.
- Create opportunities for participants to gain better insights and knowledge of issues facing our community today.
- Nominees must have the full support of the organization or corporation they represent.
- Attendance at the monthly sessions is mandatory. An unexcused absence from part of a session shall be considered a full absence. Those who fail to attend are asked to withdraw.
- Class members are chosen by the Leadership Hall County Selection Committee on their own merits based upon the information completed in the enclosed application. The committee seeks representation from a cross-section of the community, including business, labor, education, the arts, religion, government, community-based organizations, ethnic and minority groups.
- In reviewing applications, the Selection Committee looks for potential participants who demonstrate the following criteria:
- Commitment and motivation to serve the Gainesville-Hall County area.
- Policy-shaping responsibility or position of leadership in employment and/or volunteer organizations resulting in the potential to have significant influence on important issues facing the community.
- Desire to expand volunteer involvement
- Ability to make the time commitment required by the program.
- Previous volunteer experiences.
- Evidence of leadership abilities.
- Genuine motivation and interest in program.
- Candidates should be 25 years of age.
